July Monthly Theme: Exploring Beauty Culture: Skin
Over the past centuries, skin color and skin shade has been a measuring stick within the confines of “race,” and ultimately a critical feature of global caste systems
For the month of July, we are exploring a foundation of the construct of race—skin. Over the past centuries, skin color and skin shade has been a measuring stick within the confines of “race,” and ultimately a critical feature of global caste systems. Articles, resources and programming will deepen our understanding of how divisive the politics of skin color has been historically and remains to this day. Constructive conversations will be facilitated through a lesson plan on this topic to clarify the implications of skin and race. Space will be made for leading voices and resources to learn and un-learn the harmful impact of skin bias within (and outside) the fashion system.
