For the month of May, we are exploring a pillar of the construct of race: hair. Over the past centuries, hair color and texture has been a measuring stick within the confines of “race,” and ultimately a critical feature of global caste systems. A curated collection of items from our Library will deepen our understanding of how divisive the politics of hair has been historically and remains to this day. Constructive conversations will be facilitated through our Learning Guide on this topic to clarify the implications of hair and race. Space will be made for leading voices and resources to learn and un-learn the harmful impact of hair discrimination within (and outside) the fashion system.
