On our movement forward...
Race education in fashion is under threat. Help The Fashion and Race Database safeguard inclusive, factual history—donate!
And…here we are.
The mission–and very existence–of The Fashion and Race Database is potentially under threat.
The freedom to learn and have access to resources that reveal factual histories and encourage critical thinking is what we bring to the fashion system (including universities, colleges and museums) on a daily basis. Essentially, we reveal how the construct of race has shaped aesthetics, design, worldviews and industry practices.
We have political POVs trending globally that want you to believe that the history of race no longer matters, and that its present, harmful influence simply does not exist.
Our movement forward faces real challenges, and we need all hands on deck: designers, conscious fashion brands, ethical business leaders, fashion laborers, curators, scholars, students, and even concerned individuals outside of fashion.
Significant changes in political power will no doubt impact the fashion system, including those of us who know what the dissemination of knowledge can do. We remain steadfast in our commitment to use history to transform the future of fashion.

What you can do:
We want to send a powerful message by reaching a critical mass of individuals who understand what is at stake, as we plant the seeds of a strong financial model that is community-funded (consider it our project for 2025).
As we explore what is possible, we are raising $4,700.00 in 30 days.
So! Virtually link arms with us as we continue to protect ourselves against dangerous sociopolitical agendas, and do the work of correcting misrepresentation and nurturing inclusivity.
