After a bit of a hiatus from Substack, we are back!
Four years after launching our first newsletter on Substack, I decided to create an intimate community space where we could publish our reflections, hold space for discussions and host monthly (virtual) gatherings.
It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been in the university classroom, and despite speaking at public and private events here and there, I truly miss the joys of community and group discussions. I’m hoping that this new endeavor will provide a social spark for those of you interested in examining the cultural and social aspects of fashion and beauty culture.
I also hope that The FRD Community gets you excited about the “fashion and race” discourse, with the opportunity to meet and engage with like-minded subscribers.
If you have some time, I’d like to know how we can make this community a positive and practical experience for you – complete the FRD Community survey below.
One more thing...
You may want to sign up for our separate newsletter, which includes a monthly letter from the founder (that’s me!) and our lead researcher (Dr. Laura Beltrán-Rubio), as well as a bi-weekly roundup of news headlines related to fashion, race and sustainability.
And, of course, there’s our acclaimed database that houses thousands of resources and an archive of our masterclasses and talks on fashion and race. Consider becoming a member if you aren’t already.
So…here goes. I look forward to seeing you in our chat, comment threads and virtual gatherings.
Let’s go!
